Notable Kashmere High School Alumni

  • Conrad “Prof” Johnson
    Legendary band director and founder of the world-renowned Kashmere Stage Band, Prof. Johnson turned a high school band into a nationally recognized funk powerhouse, influencing music education across the country.

  • Craig Washington
    Class of 1963 – Former U.S. Congressman and Texas State Senator, known for his work in civil rights, criminal justice reform, and community advocacy.

  • Members of the Kashmere Stage Band
    This historic ensemble won national competitions in the 1970s and was later revived in the award-winning documentary Thunder Soul. Many members went on to careers in music, education, and service.

  • Ali Shaheed Muhammad (attendance debated but widely cited)
    Producer, musician, and co-founder of A Tribe Called Quest. His jazz-influenced work has shaped hip-hop and R&B globally, and he continues to score for film and television.

  • Rev. Leslie Smith II
    Founder of Change Happens!, a major nonprofit that provides youth programs and family services across Houston. Known for his transformative leadership in community outreach and ministry.
